about me
I live and work in Richmond, Virginia with my partner, teenage kids, pets and weedy urban garden. I came to ceramics after previous careers in banking and nutrition. After studying wheel and hand-building with instructors at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, Virginia since 2014, I opened my home ceramics studio in 2020.
artist's statement
The timeless connection between the maker and the user of clay ware is what inspires me to create.
I focus on functional work because touching is an important component of experiencing and understanding ceramic art. I am often moved simply by holding and feeling what the hands of another fellow human have created, and I want people to regularly use and enjoy the pieces I make.
My recent work is primarily inspired by nature- patterns, rhythms, and forms. I'm fascinated by nature's resilient systems. Her layers of redundancy enable adaptive responses to changing environmental conditions, and create order across a larger scale than we can grasp. These ideas inform my pace, direction and style of work. I like to work intuitively and am constantly experimenting to see what emerges.
